Bowling Balls
Composition
The bowling ball has evolved over the history of the game. The balls were made out of wood until the early 1900s. Nowadays, bowling balls can be made out of several different materials, such as polyester, urethane, reactive resin or particle. In the 1960s, hard rubber balls were used, followed by polyester balls in the 1970s. Most of the 'house balls' in your local bowling alley will be made out of polyester. The 1980s saw the development of the urethane ball, which has been further developed to reactive and proactive urethane. Most elite bowlers currently use a reactive or particle bowling ball, and may they use a polyester ball as an spare ball.
